When Is Kaliyug Going To End? Kalki Avatar and the End of Kaliyug

Kaliyug or Kali Yuga is the age of demon named Kali not to be confused with the goddess of destruction Kali. The other ages in their ascending order are Satya Yuga, Tretaya Yuga and Dwapara Yuga. Kaliyug is affiliated with demon Kali which means discord, conflict, strife or contention. According to the Puranic mythology sources the departure of Lord Krishna marked the end of Dwapara Yuga which commenced Kali Yuga on 18 February 3102BCE. According to Hindu mythology human civilization will degenerate spiritually during the Kaliyug which is named as Dark Age and the reason is the people will be are far away as possible from God. Vedic puranas depicted Kaliyug as the unspiritual age of sin, ignorance and short lifespan. Hinduism symbolically represents morality or dharma as a bull. In Satya Yuga, at the initial stage of development the bull has four legs, but gradually in each age morality gets reduced by one quarter and by the age of Kaliyug, morality is reduced to only a quarter of that of golden age, which means the bull of Dharma has only one leg.

Kalki Avatar and the End of Kaliyug

The Vedic literature predicts that towards the extreme end of Kaliyug, Lord Kalki will make his appearance taking birth as the son of Vishnuyasha to demolish and change everything when the rulers of the earth would have degenerated into depredators. It is stated that Kalki avatar of Lord Vishnu will appear in an eminent brahmana’s home in the village named Shambhala. The brahmana’s family in which Kalki avatar will appear is actually an incarnation of Svayambhuva Manu who has acquired a privilege of having Lord Vishnu as his son for three lifetimes. Lord Vishnu was pleased by Svayambhuva and granted this blessing that he would have three lives or incarnations as Dasaratha, father of Lord Rama, Vasudeva father of Lord Krishna and Vishnuyasha father of Lord Kalki. Even in Padma Purana, Lord Vishnu has admitted that will take birth in Kaliyug as Kalki Avatar.

According to the Padma Purana Kalki avatar will end the Kali Yuga and will kill all the wicked and erroneous mlecchas (bad guys) destroying the bad condition of the world. The avatar will gather all of the distinguished and noble brahmanas to establish the highest truth. He will remove the prolonged hunger and sufferings of the genuine and noble brahmanas and the saints. He will be the one and only tremendous ruler of the world impossible to be controlled being the banner of victory of the world.

As mentioned in Padma Purana, Lord Kalki will appear as a warrior or chastiser when the planet will be filled completely with people unable to understand logical conversations. People who will be slow-minded and dull-witted, not capable of being taught, especially in the field of high philosophy regarding the meaning of life will be inhabiting the world during the end of Kaliyug. Lord Kalki will not come to teach, but simply to scourge, punish, and chastise the planet.

At the end of Kaliyug there will exist no topics on the subject of God, even at the residences and homes of saints and respectable personalities of the higher castes, the power of government will be transferred to the hands of ministers elected from the low born shudra class or less than them and at that era the Lord will appear as the supreme warrior.

End of the Kaliyug Theories

According to one of the Hindu mythology theories, Kali Yuga comprises of complete 4,32,000 human years and according to the general accepted notion, Dwapara Yuga ended and Kali Yuga commenced nearly 5000 years back which means we have got the remaining 4,27,000 years for the end of Kaliyug. As mentioned in the scriptures, after the end of Kali Yuga, there will be the onset of the Golden age of knowledge and wisdom which is referred as Satya Yuga.

According to Bramha Purana, the duration of Kaliyug will be 10,000 years which will be the golden period of Kali Yuga and after these years, the process of downfall and deterioration of the human race will soon become faster, and by the completion of it spirituality and knowledge, the golden period will lose its meaning and existence to the people of the earth. Hence to restore the symmetry, the end of Kali Yuga will witness another incarnation or birth of Lord Vishnu as Kalki avatar. Some accurate indicators of the end of Kali Yuga age that are scripted in Hindu Puranas are- the human lifespan will be reduced to a 12-30 years, and the height of the human body will also be reduced to mere 4 feet. 

Some scriptures like Mahabharata and Vishnu Purana have mentioned that the original number of years of Kali Yuga is 12,000 years that do not transform the divine years into human years and by the end of which Lord Vishnu will appear as Kalki avatar to enter the new age called Satya Yuga and so goes the cycle of ages.
